We are on a journey of transformation, merging our Communications & Advocacy and Marketing to become even stronger and more effective in our communications efforts. We are now looking for a Swedish speaking Director of Communication and Marketing to lead and develop the department, which consists of 25 employees, including unit managers for Campaign, Content, and Press & Advocacy. As the Director of Communication and Marketing, you will report to our General Director and be part of the MSF Sweden Management Team.
The role
The role has an overall responsibility for implementing the purpose of the department: To effectively communicate MSFs humanitarian efforts and values, raising awareness and engagement across Swedish society. Through innovative marketing strategies and strong messaging we aim to:
- Generate financial support for MSF’s humanitarian mission.
- Raise awareness to inspire action and solidarity with people affected by humanitarian crisis.
- Position MSF as the leading international medical humanitarian organisation in Sweden.
- Influence policy and practices that can improve the situation for our patients and for others.
- Support and strengthen MSF Sweden’s staff recruitment ambitions.
Main responsibilities
- Lead and empower teams, develop and implement overarching communication and marketing strategies that support MSF overall goals.
- Oversee and guide external communication efforts to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with other functions to ensure that communication and marketing efforts are synchronized with MSF’s overall strategy.
- Create sustainable working climate by leading with values, supporting employee development and creating a culture of learning.
- Actively contribute as a member of MSF SE Management Team (MT) with shared accountability for the overall strategic direction, operational excellence, and organizational development of MSF Sweden.
We are looking for you with
- A strong commitment to MSF values and humanitarian principles.
- Academic degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience from a leadership role with staff responsibility within marketing and communications or a related field.
- Experience of working in the non-profit sector.
- A leadership that drives change, fostering engagement for innovation, and enhancing ways of working.
- Very good ability to develop and implement long-term strategies, good skills in project management and experience in developing, communicating and implementing strategic plans.
- Fluency in spoken and written Swedish and English.
It’s valuable if you have
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong creative and analytical skills and experience in data driven communications.

Employment terms and conditions
- Type of contract: Permanent (6 months probation period)
- Contract duration: Full-time position
- Entry date: Preferably beginning of May 2025, can be discussed.
- Goal oriented working time (37,5 hours/week is full time)
- Salary: 64.612 SEK/month (if you have 8 years’ experience as required). The salary is set according to the MSF Sweden Salary policy.
- Benefits: Pension, health insurance, life insurance, travel insurance, insurance for work related injuries, wellness contribution (3000 SEK/year) and one wellness hour per week. Full compensation day 1-14 of sick leave
- Vacation: 32 days/year + 3,5 extra vacation days for all employees (which varies from year to year)
- Work Style: In-Person at the office in Liljeholmen, Stockholm.
- As an employee with MSF Sweden, you are bound by the collective bargaining agreement for non-profit organisations between Fremia and Unionen & Akademikerförbunden.
